GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN PLAYSCHOOL
Good Shepherd Lutheran Playschool is a nonprofit educational service affiliated with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since 1973. The Good Shepherd Lutheran Playschool has provided children with a caring learning environment geared to the individual needs of each child.
The aim of the school is to create
within each child feelings of achievement and accomplishment that will help the
child make a successful adjustment to kindergarten and further his/her
educational and emotional development.
A child's first day in preschool is
the beginning of many years of school experience. What happens on this and succeeding days of
the year greatly influence a child's future in school and even his whole
adjustment to social living and his development as a personality. This preschool has an important contribution
to make toward the entire education of your child.
Coming to school usually confronts
children with a novel situation. It
means being away from home and familiar surroundings for several hours a
week. It means following different
schedules, working and playing with many others of one's own age, undertaking
new activities, using new materials, and preparing for further school
experiences. Together such demands might
overwhelm or at least unsettle the child, so it is the function of Good
Shepherd Lutheran Playschool to help make the adjustment to kindergarten a
natural part of the total process of growing up.

Classes
The three-day session will be held
each Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning with the first Wednesday after
Labor Day. The two-day session will be
held on each Tuesday and Thursday starting with the first Thursday after Labor
Day. The five-day class is Monday
through Friday starting with the first Wednesday after Labor Day. The school year ends at the end of May.
Classes within the Playschool
program are set up based on the children's ages. To enhance the learning experience and to
provide the proper level of supervision for the children, we try to implement
the following pupil/teacher ratios:
young threes - six children to one teacher; 3 ½ - 4 years old - nine
children to one teacher; four year olds - twelve children to one teacher. A full-time aide assists the teachers.
Tuition
For the 2010/2011 school year, the registration fee is $60 per
child. This fee will cover all
materials, supplies and books used during the year. Registration fees are not refundable.
Tuition for the two-day program is
$130.00 per month, $150.00 per month for the three-day, and $275.00 for the
five day. There will be a $10.00 per
month reduction for a second child in the same family. September and May's tuition are due at the
beginning of school. May's tuition will
be refunded if the family moves out of the area.
Staff
Each class at Good Shepherd Lutheran
Playschool is taught by an experienced teacher who is carefully chosen for
their ability to work with the pre-school child. Where possible, a degree in early childhood
education is desired. In addition, there
is an aide to assist the teachers where needed.
All staff members are involved in continuing education workshops that
are offered during the year. All staff
members are required to have background checks at the initial time of
employment.
